I’ve had a track car that sheers down oil in 300 miles, a jeep that would clog oil ports after 3000 miles, and a BMW that was fine with 7500miles. Oil change intervals can vary to an extreme depending on the way you drive, climate, how long you let your car warm up, oil type and brand, and of course the type of vehicle you drive. I will be doing an analysis on my second oil change to get a good data point on what mileage to change my oil.

I use mobil 1 full synthetic 0w40 euro blend as well. After the car stalled, I raised the hood, and pulled the dipstick which registered not a drop of oil. If you’re doing an analysis on engine oil in a new vehicle, you typically have to state that it’s the first oil change to get proper data. Ive found the color and texture of the oil starts to change after about 5K miles, so I change within a 2K miles thereafter. A typical oil analysis on a new engine will show signs of ring and bearing failure because of the metals suspended in your oil. While your filter catches most of these particles, smaller ones still circulate through your engine.

Although ford does not use a special break in oil like some brands such as Mazda, the initial 1000 miles or so on a new engine creates much more debris as moving parts mate with one another. If it’s the original oil, I would change it asap.
